
Graduated with honors from the Law Faculty of the Tajik State University. Doctor of Law, Associate Professor.
Prior to legal practice worked as a forensic expert in law enforcement, as a lecturer in Criminalistics at the Academy of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs, and as a Senior Researcher and Head of the Laboratory of Trace Evidence and Toolmark Examinations and Audio Analysis of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Science of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Member of the Moscow City Bar Association since 1993.
Specializes in criminal defense.
During 2003–2017 worked as a Senior Researcher in the Sector of Criminal Law, Criminology and Problems of Justice of the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Shamil N. Khaziev has published more than 180 academic papers on international law, criminal litigation, criminalistics and forensic science. He is the author of five individual monographs: “The Issues of Forensic Science in the Activities of the European Court of Human Rights,” Moscow, 2009; “Forensic Organizations of the Russian Federation,” Moscow, 2009; “International Forensic Organizations,” Moscow, 2010; “The Issues of Forensic Science in the Activities of International Organizations,” Moscow, 2011; “International Law and Forensic Science,” Moscow, 2014.
He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and the Executive Board of the International Union (Commonwealth) of Advocates. He serves on the editorial boards of the journals “Lawyer” and “Theory and Practice of Forensic Science,” and as a regional representative of the International Association for Identification in the Russian Federation.
He has been recognized with two awards of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers: the 2nd Class Medal “For Merits in the Protection of Citizens’ Rights and Freedoms” and the lapel pin “150 Years of the Russian Bar.”
