Abstract
The paper offers a characterization of OSA handgun cartridges and cartridge components
most frequently encountered in forensic practice. Recent design modifications have
significantly enhanced the end-user performance of OSA handguns and non-lethal
cartridges, at the same time limiting the possibilities of forensic toolmark analysis on
cartridge cases and recovery of trace materials on the damaged target. The authors
demonstrate the possibility of establishing whether a shot was fired from an OSA
handgun.

Abstract
«Integrated forensic investigation» as a legal category is analysed from the perspective
of forensic scientists. It is demonstrated that integrated (inter-disciplinary) investigations
may be carried out and in current practice are often completed by a single examiner
possessing all the necessary forensic qualifications.

Abstract
The paper carries on the discussion of theoretical and procedural aspects of integrated
forensic investigation: the capacity of a forensic examiner to evaluate a conclusion made
by a specialist in a different forensic discipline, the legal status of integrated forensic
investigation, differences between the terms 'specialization' and 'specialism', classification
of forensic investigations into 'commissioned' and 'integrated', etc.
